General Information on Nutrition and Fermentation

The Weston A. Price Foundation’s philosophy and ideas fuels most of my applications of nutrition and lifestyle choices. I also find the Paleo and the Primal Blueprint’s orientation quite compelling and apply much of what they propose as well. There is quite a bit of overlap between these approaches.

Weston A. Price Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt nutrition education foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to restoring nutrient-dense foods to the human diet through education, research and activism. It supports a number of movements that contribute to this objective including accurate nutrition instruction, organic and biodynamic farming, pasture-feeding of livestock, community-supported farms, honest and informative labeling, prepared parenting and nurturing therapies. Specific goals include establishment of universal access to clean, certified raw milk and a ban on the use of soy formula for infants.

GAPS Diet –The Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet has its foundation on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) created by Dr. Sidney Valentine Haas to heal digestive disorders.  SCD gained great popularity after a mother, Elaine Gottschall, healed her own child and became an advocate for SCD.  Elaine Gottschall is also the author of the popular book Breaking the Vicious Cycle. Intestinal Health Through Diet. Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride has taken SCD and evolved it further to create a full protocol for healing digestive disorders and subsequent issues.
